Article Marketing Tips For Proper Article SEO
Most marketers today, even newbies know the power of article marketing. They just don’t know how to make it work for their online business.
The thing is if you get article marketing right content is still king, however not all articles have what it takes to make it in this every increasing competitive Internet world we have today. For this reason it’s vital you learn article marketing and search engine optimization before starting or NOW before you continue as you are.
Search Engine Optimization or SEO can help you fly by those who go for quantity of articles over quality of articles. The thing is the more marketers that mess this up the better I do because they really aren’t my competition.
How To Optimize Your Articles
The first step is of course where most go wrong. Before you ever start typing an article first make certain you have done your niche and keyword research. Skipping this step will cost you both time and money.
Yes you can produce a lot more articles if you spin them but that can kill an otherwise good article, so until you know what you’re doing and how to spin an article properly you should be doing this by hand. Rewrite each article to make it unique. So first…
Research Your Niche Thoroughly
Time invested at this point is a wise move on your part. Researching your niche keywords is not just about finding keywords it’s more about finding the keywords you can rank for sooner than later. So it’s not just the top keywords you want, it’s the best keywords for your site, NOW.
There is a lot of competition in most niches today make your research all the more important. Many, well most of the keywords that get a lot of traffic are tied up by bigger marketers than you and I meaning you need to find other keywords you can rank for in the short term.
However it doesn’t mean you ignore those tougher keywords. Instead work them into your articles and rank for them in the future although it could take years for top keywords in some niches.
Research Keywords You Can Rank For NOW
Find keywords that get the traffic you can rank for as well as make money with and today that takes dedicated research. You can use free tools like Google’s free keyword tool to narrow down the keywords you need.
Once you have your keywords worked out you need to keep good documentation so that you can effectively link your articles together for a much more powerful article marketing campaign.
Use At Least Two Keyword Phrases Per Article
Don’t limit yourself to just one keyword phrase per article. Of course you put your focus on the main keyword for the article so that you can start ranking for it but you want to include a keyword phrase you want to rank for eventually as your secondary keyword phrase.
This is how I have come up through the ranks with my home gardening tips website and after a couple of years of earning from my keywords I started getting ranked for those secondary keywords and my traffic when from a couple hundred visitors a day to over a thousand.
Example: I started a home gardening tips site in 2007 and knew I was up against some tough competition. However we had just started gardening to save money so I wanted to go for it. I also knew there was tough competition for a lot of the keywords I wanted and needed some help.
This is the time I purchased Keyword Elite to nail down profitable keywords as well as the keywords I would try to rank for over time. KE helped me to see what the top 10 sites were doing with the keywords I wanted to rank for. Free tools for this took me all day but KE showed me the results in just minutes. A real time saver and a great investment for my business.
I focus my article on the specific keyword phrases I found during my research and then made sure I placed them in the right locations. I also pay close attention to my article’s keyword density.
However, like I said, I also include a keyword phrase that has a lot of competition so that eventually I will rank for that phrase and it’s worked on my sites because I pay close attention to those details.
Where To Place Your Keyword Phrase
In the last section I mentioned placing your keywords in the right places. That’s important for optimization purposes if you want to get target traffic from those search engines in order to make money or increase your earnings.
Keyword Your Article Title
Your page title is usually what appears in search engine listings so it’s important to do a quality job in your title. I ignore a lot of listing and move on to the next because the title doesn’t always match my search. Having your keywords people are looking for match your title will get you a whole lot more clicks. Without those clicks in the search results you will never have visitors from search engines and that means you are losing potential income.
1. First you want your keyword phrase in your title. That just makes good sense. It also means your keywords will show up in the search results and more people are likely to click your link instead of moving on to the next link in the results.
2. Next you should sprinkle your keyword phrase through the body of the article. This is so the search engines can easily determine what your keywords are. Don’t get carried away by using your keyword to the point it’s just spammy as that can have a negative effect on your page hindering your progress.
Where you place your keyword phrase again is for search engines as humans usually get the point of the article where the SEs need to figure it out. With your keyword placement you can help that happen.
- Use your keyword phrase in the first sentence if possible but at least in the first paragraph.
- You want to be sure to include your phrase in the last sentence as well. So you are ending with your keyword phrase.
- Now include your phrase throughout the rest of your article giving a keyword density somewhere between 3% and 7% so as not to look spammy to the search engines.
It’s important to include a link or two in your article. It’s also important to link to an internal page on your site for deep linking and page rank building. It is VITAL to keyword your hyper text or link text.
What To Do With Your Hyper Links
Your hyper link are probably the most important part of your article as your linking or backlinking is what will help to build page rank for your pages. Do not overlook this step!!
The words you choose for your link text needs to match the keyword focus of your article or a variation of that keyword so as to keep inline with proper SEO practices by making your link text varied like it would happen naturally.
Get your linking correct and you are definitely on the right path to article marketing success. However the flip side of this is missing the mark here and that can be costly and is where most marketers fail miserably.
Start with the following tips for hyperlinking and you will do well.
- Your hyper link needs to be keyworded just like all your articles need to be and your keyword has to be relevant to the keywords in your article.
- If you have one link it’s vital to link it to an internal yet relevant page on your site. If you have a second link you could link that to your main page.
- Your published articles need to vary keywords in the links for each location you publish as well as rewriting the article so it’s unique of course.
I hope this little article marketing article has helped. If so leave a comment and share with me and my readers. Happy linking.
In conclusion I would add that article marketing is more than just writing one article and publishing it. It’s about focused content that builds ranking for your pages and today that usually means buying links or working hard to have the best keyword focused articles.
Personally I don’t buy links although I do accept text link ads and make good money at it. But for my article marketing efforts I use The Best Spinner to produce many more articles from just one.
