I remember growing up thinking I’d get rich making money doing the things I loved. Well back then I loved fishing and thought how great it would be to make a living taking people fishing. Well that never happened and life got too busy to think about any more, until many years later.

Fast forward and single life turned into married life which soon included a child and there seemed like no time for the things I love so much.

Fast forward a bit more and the Internet was available in most homes and soon my mind turned to working from home making money online.

At the time I started my work from home business there wasn’t much about making money with your hobbies so I didn’t even think of that, until much later.

I took a stab at making money online telling others about how to make money online. I made a few bucks, just enough to lead me to think I was on to something. Well the money only ever came in at random and not much to talk about.

Once I turned from the make money online niche and started focusing on my hobbies my business life took a turn for the better and I found I was so much less stressed.

For me that first money making site was about fishing. I love fishing and get out as often as I can. Each trip makes for a couple of helpful articles I can use on my fishing related blogs. For some it might be home improvements that gets them excited, with a little work they turn their hobby or interest into a profit making website.

Stick With What You Know And Love

I don’t make a huge amount of money with each site I have but then again I’m 60 and don’t put in a lot of time on these sites. The key was to go with something I like enough to stick with it for a long time.

While I was striving to make money with make money sites I was frustrated and stressed all the time and constantly questioning what I was doing. My mind was always going to the idea of just quitting.

Fortunately you’re not required to have degree in the niche you love, usually. I certainly don’t have any degrees in home gardening, playing guitar or fly fishing but I make money with those niches.

Treat Your Work From Home Idea Like A Business

Just periodically putting content on your site or blog isn’t going to make you rich. It may make you a few extra bucks, which is fine if that’s the goal, but if your goal is to make a living working from home you need to treat your website like a business.

I have contact with people who are freelance writers. They love writing and I’m willing to accept their articles for my own sites. I get them for free and allow each writer to include a couple of links to their sites so they can make a living as well. As I see it we have a win-win situation. I get content that helps me rank better, get more visitors and make money while they get traffic from my sites and make money as well.

It’s a business.

How I Make Money Online

I make my money with a variety of methods. I use Google Adsense, Ebay Partner Network along with text link ads and many affiliate networks.

My biggest income is from affiliate marketing. I didn’t do so well with affiliate marketing until I read a affiliate marketing guide called Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner. This changed my work from home business life, almost over night.

Work from home business owners or marketers like myself tend to collect domains that don’t get used, just so they have that keyworded domain for future use.

First Things First

You have to be accepted into the Google Adsense program before you can make money with Adsense for Domains and not all sites are accepted. So, rather be one that’s disappointed at being rejected you need to be sure the site you tell Google is your site is ready.

Don’t put crap on your site and then ads everywhere so that it looks spammy because that is spammy and you’ll get rejected. Take the time to put quality content on your site that’s not duplicate content either and leave those ads off until you’ve been accepted by Google Adsense.

Personally GoDaddy.com is the only place I need to go to get domains. They have earned that right with me as they have been there when I needed help, always pleasant and their domains are affordable.

What you will need to do is change the Domain Name Servers or DNS to those given to you by Google when you are accepted and go to the Domain section. I know it can be a little tense getting these things done so here is a helpful video you can follow along with.

My favourite method for making money while I work from home blogging is through affiliate marketing programs. This means I can sell or promote products and services I don’t actually own and can still make money selling them. How cool is that?

Affiliate marketing is basically finding a product or service, through an affiliate network usually, and then apply it to your blog using hypertext or banners with your unique affiliate ID.

Now when you visitors come to your site to read your content they will also be given options for clicking affiliate related links which will make you money when they do.

This means you need to keep your visitor on your page all the way to the click.

I usually earn a commission when affiliate marketing but some places will have a set price for the product or service. Whether you earn commission or a set price per sale it can still differ greatly from one affiliate network to another so it’s worth your time finding the best program.

Clickbank is one of my favourite places to promote products from as I earn up to 75%, commission per sale. Note: Some of the products on Clickbank have recurring payouts so don’t miss those if they fit your niche.

You are likely to get a much smaller commission percentage on physical, something like 4% to 20%. The thing about big ticket items, even if the commission is small it is still worth the effort to earn some of that.

Right from the start my advice is to not monetize your site before you have been approved by Google Adsense.

Now after saying that let me explain a bit about what Google Adsense is: Adsense is Google’s promotional program. You can add Adsense ad blocks to your blog with minimal work.

Adsense works to make you money when people visiting your blog or website see and click the relevant ads Google Adsense shows based on your page content.

Each time a visitor clicks an ad you earn some cash.

Note that you are not likely to make a lot of money with Adsense if you only have a few pages of content and little traffic. Adsense is a numbers game and you need quality content and traffic to make it work for you.

Google Adsense earning can earn you as little as a few pennies to a few dollars but this will be based on what the accepted rate is for the keywords for each page on your site. I have a friend that makes great money with Adsense while another friend makes just pennies a month.

CPA Programs (Cost Per Action)

Cost per action programs could be a little tougher to get but once your blog is ranked well in the most popular search engines you could have no problem being accepted into these programs. They work similar to adsense, you place an advertisement or banner on your blog and when visitors click the banner they are taken to another site with an offer or an opt in page.

If the individual then completes the offer or opt’s in you are then paid. Payments can fluctuate from 0.01cents to 100′s of dollars dependent on what the offer is about and how much they spend.

The average payment for sending leads (visitors from your blog) to a CPA program is around $3.00.
