How To Use SOC

When using Strength of Competition you have a few options. You can specify as single phrase by clicking the SOC link in the row your keyword is in from the SOC column.

You can use the check boxes to the left to select as many keywords as you would like or you can click the link at the top that says ‘Cleck All’.

This could take some time, of course it will depend on the number of keywords you are checking SOC on. While this is being checked I leave it and get some other things done.

Micro Niche Finder put each keyword into one of three categories, listed below.

1. Strong Competition – show as red ‘danger’ meaning it could be tough to gain on your competition.
2. Moderate Competition – shows as yellow ‘caution’ a moderately easy market to rank in Google.
3. Light Competition – show as green ‘go’ should be relatively easy to rank for this term in Google.

Using MNF saves me a lot of time during the research phase compared to the hours and even days it would take me to do my keyword research.

Hide Results I Don’t Want To See

Once I have completed each stage of my research, such as after SOC has completed I can select and then hide the keywords I’m not interested in at the moment.

Time To Find Phrase Counts

After I have the competition narrowed down I can click Phrase Count at the top of the screen in order to find results for the keywords you have left. The list is getting narrowed down pretty good by now.

I put a lot of effort into my keywords so I want a certain amount of traffic to do that work. The phrase count matches will help me eliminate those will too little traffic to make it worth my time.

7. Do headings use H1 and H2 tags.
8. Are keywords bolded or italicized.

Doing these checks are vital for competing but can take a lot of time. I have been able to do so much more since I stopped using free tools and bought my copy of Keyword Elite by Brad Callen. He’s made my business life so much easier and productive.

You Need Target Traffic

To be successful with your article marketing you need to get as many eyes on your articles as possible and that means getting traffic.

I like getting my traffic for free from the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Target traffic should be the goal, meaning you want traffic that’s actually interested in your topic otherwise your stats will look screwy as most of your traffic will leave after a few seconds.

This means you need to optimize the articles you write for your target market so that the search engines will send you focused, target traffic.

2. Niche Related Keyword Focus

Search engines can send you a lot of traffic that’s completely free of cost. All you have to do is find the right keywords and then write compelling informative content.

To make this work takes research. The first steps are to find a niche people spend money in and second the keywords these people use when they are looking to purchase something.

I like the term Bum Marketing and for the longest time thought it was named for the fact I have my butt in my home office chair typing up articles for my sites and article directories and networks.

Recently I read Bum Marketing got the name because even a homeless person could do it. Well truthfully I like my definition better.

3. Article Marketing With Long Tail Keywords

Today, after people have been marketing online for more than a decade, keywords can be tough to come by. Well keywords that will get you the traffic you need to succeed without taking two years to compete for them.

So we have a different strategy today. A strategy that uses long tail keywords.

What are long tail keywords, well simply put they are keywords with extra words. Of the cat was the keyword the tail would be the extra words that give you a chance to compete.

Example: Instead of using ‘dog training‘ which would be called a keyword, you would use something like, ‘dog training pit pulls to not chew furniture‘ or ‘train your pit bull not to chew everything‘.

I started a gardening website that wasn’t getting much attention. Then I learned more about online marketing, changed the phrases I was using and gained first page results on Google after just one month.

I went from using keywords which were sown up by top marketers to using long tail keywords. That change took my gardening site from NOT being found, to over a thousand unique visitors a day.

It was worth learning how to do it right.

4. Your Long Tail Keyword Density And Placement

Knowing the long tail keywords comes from researching using either free research tools or paid tools like Keyword Elite. I started with free research tools which took a lot of my time, but worked however I purchased Keyword Elite as soon as I had earned enough money to invest.

Once you have your keywords, specifically long tail keywords you’re ready to start writing. At this point you want to pay attention to where and how often you include your phrases.

I have found I do well with a keyword density of between 3% and 7%.

Placement is pretty straightforward. You want to include your main keyword phrase in the first sentence or paragraph. Again in the middle and again at the end.

Depending on how many times you need to use your keyword phrases to keep your density right you might need to include in a few more places. Just make sure you hit the three spots I mentioned. The start, middle and end.

Publishing Your Article In More Than One Place

My article marketing includes more than just publishing my content on my own blogs and sites. I also use article directories and networks to spread my articles around.

I use the top article directories, those with a minimum of pagerank 3, to get eyes on my articles. I also use article networks like The Free Traffic System where I can publish my spin code from The Best Spinner.
